Eden, heart, home, family. The balance of light and dark, the decision to feed the calm, nurturing white wolf or the raging wild black wolf. A tight rope walk which has led me to the wild west coast of Tasmania and the untamed takayna coast line. Brother wind is howling across the vast expanse of the Indian ocean, spurred on by the ruthless roaring forties until they finally crash into the west point headland. This is the place that has been chosen to capture the dance between light and dark. This is not a place for the faint hearted, this is where I have come to face down my demons and endure.
An old farmstead piano has been placed in a hollow amongst the weathered outcrops of stone and native grass. There is no sand, there is no comfort but there is a wildly invigorating sense of belonging as I sit at this piano which has borne witness to countless family gatherings and generations of music. A beautifully crafted man made object in the wild open takayna coastline. Human song meets nature song as two worlds connect.
Sister sun blazes down from a wind ravaged sky as the dance begins. My stone fortress projects a radiant warmth onto my back and sweeps into the fabric of my soul as the devil rides the wind. Sensual bull kelp pulses beneath a glassy inlet and wave worn pebbles massage the soles of my feet. My physical self joins with the land as our heart song begins.
This is my saltwater place. As I settle down at the piano it all feels so familiar, so right. My constant companion who has been with me through the best and worst that life has offered is rocking in the wind. It is exhilarating, it is an emotional connection which pours through my entire body. I am feeding the white wolf.
This location on the takayna coastline where the roaring forties drive the winds halfway around the world before they crash into this ancient west point has provided the perfect physical landscape for every word in my song. The castle of the heart, the rough sandstone under my fingertips and the devil casting its shadow, catching the crest of a wave and dancing on the wind. It is breathtaking, it is ferociously beautiful. Thank you takayna.
